Although pet cats are neutered you still have to choose between the sexes, which one make excellent pets. Majority of male cats are not suitable in most households because they usually spend their time searching for female cats. They will only think of a home if they are hungry and sleepy. Despite of their loving and pleasing disposition towards people, they usually spray their pungent urine in the house to mark out their territory.

Since male cats spend so much time outside, they became involved in fights with other male cats over territory or the possession of a female. They also developed a strong and disagreeable smell.

The queens or the unspayed females are the ideal household pet. But their availability is seasonal and they are difficult to obtain. Most female cats produce many litters in their lifetime. This is the reason why it was recommended that all household cats should be neutered.
Distinguishing a female cat to a male is very easy. For female cats the distance between the anus and the urinary tract opening is short while on male cats it is often longer and the aperture is more rounded.
